Teenager outraged by older brother’s ‘selfish’ request: ‘I started to cry’

A 16-year-old girl couldn’t believe it when her 28-year-old brother suggested she get rid of her childhood pet.

She went on Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum to see if she overreacted. The teenager’s pet is a macaw named Blue. Macaws tend to make loud noises but her family has never minded. However, her brother John’s new girlfriend Emily doesn’t like the bird at all.

“But here’s the thing: she doesn’t live with us,” the teenager said. “They either visit or sometimes John and her stay the night because they do live sort of far. In the morning, when blue wakes up, he wakes all of us up. We’re morning people so it’s fine, but Emily is always in a bad mood when she is woken up by Blue.”

Then one day John cornered her to talk about Blue.

“He asked me what I was going to do with him since I was going to college,” the user explained. “I was confused, because I already told my family that I was going to a nearby college, that I could quickly drive to and still live at home. He then tried to argue that college is hard and that I wouldn’t have time for Blue. I don’t think that will be the case though. I’ve taken care of him since I was like 8 and never had problems. But then here’s what got me: He said Emily found a family that could take him in. I was immediately pissed and yelled at him that Emily was trying to get rid of him and he got equally pissed and said that wasn’t true. I started to cry angry tears and he tried to hug me but I kicked him out of my room. I was honestly so angry he could say something like that.”

Reddit users were not fond of Emily’s behavior.

“Her actions are extremely selfish,” one user commented.

“I can’t believe that they would try to take your best friend away from you,” another wrote

“No one needs to make plans for your bird except you,” someone said
