Teenager seriously hurt in New Hey Road crash in Huddersfield

A teenager has suffered serious injuries in a two-car crash in Huddersfield on Sunday evening.

Emergency services were called to Round Ings Road at Outlane following a collision at around 7.45pm. The crash was reported to have happened on or near the junction with New Hey Road. West Yorkshire Police said an 18-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A police spokesman said: "Police were called to New Hey Road, Huddersfield, at 7.45pm on Sunday to a report of a collision between two cars.

"An 18 year-old male from one of the cars was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries described as serious but not thought to be life threatening. Both cars were later recovered with the road re-opened just after midnight."

A fire service spokesman added: "We got called at 19.50 to reports of a road traffic collision on Round Ings Road. This was a collision between two cars.

"Crews from Huddersfield and Rastrick freed two people from the vehicles before making the scene safe."

A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesman said three people had been taken to hospital.

"We received an emergency call at 7.43pm on Sunday evening to report a collision between two vehicles at the junction of New Hey Road and Round Ings Road, Huddersfield.

"Three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, a team leader and a doctor responded to the incident and three patients were conveyed to hospital – one to Leeds General Infirmary and two to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary."
