Teenager taken to hospital after being "stabbed in the eye" during North Belfast assault

A teenager was taken to hospital after being "stabbed in the eye" by a group of men during an assault in North Belfast.

A 19-year-old man had been walking in the Eia Street area at around 7.45pm on Friday, January 31, when three men wearing dark coloured tracksuits got out of a car and attacked him. One of the men was armed with a weapon and is reported to have stabbed the victim in the eye.

The teenager was taken to hospital for treatment following the assault and required a number of stitches along with suffering "nerve damage behind the eye".

Detective Sergeant Faulkner said: “It was reported to police on Saturday 1 st February, that at around 7:45pm on Friday 31 st January a 19 year old man was walking in the area when three men wearing dark, coloured tracksuits got out of a dark coloured car. It was reported that one of the men was armed with an unknown weapon and stabbed the 19 year old male in the eye. The male was taken to hospital for his injuries, which required a number of stitches and the male suffered nerve damage behind the eye following the incident.
