Teignmouth Carnival cancelled as organisers issue statement

The organisers of popular long-established Teignmouth Carnival have confirmed the 'difficult decision' to cancel this year's event which was due to take place during the last week of July.

The carnival committee have stated it is unable to go ahead for a number of reasons including financial implications and policing concerns.

It is hoped that the carnival will make a comeback next year. It has been an important part of celebrations in the seaside town for many decades.

In an announcement on its website, the Teignmouth Carnival Committee said: "As supporters of Teignmouth Carnival, I wanted to let you know that this year’s carnival has been postponed until 2025. Some of the reasons for this are:

  • Financial implications

  • Stricter deadlines being imposed

  • Policing concerns

  • Resources

"Can I take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support of Teignmouth Carnival and the committee. Please be in no doubt that this has been a very difficult decision to make, which in the end was taken out of our hands."
