Today temperatures could reach as high as 24C or even 25C in the London area, after the fog has cleared this morning. Temperatures look similar tomorrow for the south east.’

The unusually warm start to October is thought to be down to hot air from France blowing into the UK, putting temperatures on a par with Greece.

Gravesend in Kent saw temperatures peak at a staggering 29.9C on 1 October, 2011, according to the Met Office.
