Longtime bassist with The Temptations Kerry Turman has been confirmed as having passed away at the age of 59.

The band had been performing in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on Saturday night (April 22) just before the star was pronounced dead.

The news was revealed on Facebook through The Temptations' page, and read: "The Temptations lost a dear member of our family, as bass player Kerry Turman has passed away. Rest In Peace, much love, much respect."

The Temptations had been touring with The Beach Boys when Kerry Turman passed away, and the band's Mike Love went on to explain exactly what happened.

"This Sunday morning was a very sad day for the 'Surf & Soul' tour," he wrote on Facebook. "Sometime around 7am, Kerry Turman, the bass player for the Temptations, was found in his hotel room unresponsive.

"It's incredibly shocking as we were just chatting and hanging around backstage Saturday night in Cape Girardeau.

"KT was a gentle giant with incredible talent. He played bass on songs that will forever be part of our American songbook for the last 33 years," he wrote.

Love also called Turman "kind and jovial", and described him as a "devoted father and family man".

Turman's exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed, though the coroner revealed that he died from natural causes, according to USA Today.
