Epsom Derby: The event was marred by violence

Ten teenagers have been charged after violence broke out and bottles were allegedly hurled into crowds during the Epsom Derby.

Riot police had to be called to the famous course on June 5 last year as trouble flared near an entertainment stage outside the ticketed enclosures.

One racegoer and a police officer were injured when bottles were thrown during the violence, Surrey Police say.

On Thursday, police announced 10 youths aged from 16 to 19, had been charged with violent disorder.

They include Louis Lynch, 19, of Burnhams Grove in Epsom, and 18-year-old Jack Gavigan, from Oxted, who was also charged with attempted GBH.

A 20-year-old, Archie Butler from Westerham in Kent, has also been charged with violent disorder.

They will appear in court on either April 21 or May 11.
