Tenerife warns UK tourists there is a 'problem' on Canary Island

UK holidaymakers in Tenerife face a scam in a "problem area" on the Canary Island. Brits planning a European getaway should take note of the latest findings from insurance gurus at quotezone, who've pinpointed where you're most likely to fall prey to pickpockets.

And a European Union holiday hotspot visitor has shared a TikTok, which has gone viral, explaining the threat of pickpocketing. @seb_tenerife cautioned that "pickpockets" are a common problem in Tenerife across the island.

"I would just again be very careful," he said, adding: "Benidorm is a lot like Tenerife - both great holiday destinations, great weather, booze is flying, everyone's here for a good time, very similar sorts of destinations [...] But obviously, like anywhere where holiday places are [...]

"You've just got to be wary." He warned Playa de las Americas and the nearby strip known as Veronica's were two particular problem areas, saying: "Las Americas does seem to be the spot where it's all happening, especially down Veronica's [...]

"So aye, just be careful, watch your belongings, and you'll be absolutely sound." Quotezone.co.uk's founder and CEO Greg Wilson commented of the findings and went on to say this week: "Iconic attractions like the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Trevi Fountain in Rome are particularly popular with pickpockets as they can move more inconspicuously amongst larger crowds.

"Many holidaymakers are unaware that some of the most popular destinations for Brits have some of the highest incidents of pickpocketing in Europe." He advises maintaining a keen awareness of your surroundings and taking measures to safeguard your valuables.

He added: "It is essential always to remain vigilant, leave valuables, like expensive jewellery, in a safe in the hotel and always travel with a secure cross-body bag with zips to secure phones and wallets or even a money belt."
