Woman, 34, stabbed student with broken bottle in row over chicken nugget

A woman has been jailed after stabbing a student in the face with a broken bottle in a dispute over a chicken nugget.

Terrialena Parkin, 34, smashed the bottle into her victim's face after she asked him for money and he offered her the food.

She was told by a judge that she poses a serious danger to the public after the "nasty and premeditated" attack.

Her university student victim had been enjoying a night out during freshers' week in Leeds when he was assaulted on 22 September last year.

Jeremy Barton, prosecuting, said the victim had ordered food from a takeaway and was sitting on a bench eating.

He was approached by the defendant in the early hours of the morning, who asked the victim for £10.

After the victim asked if she wanted some food and offered her a chicken nugget, Parkin walked away and picked up a broken bottle.

A member of the public then saw Parkin smash the bottle and walk back towards the victim holding the weapon.

The witness shouted to the victim as he was worried about the defendant's "menacing" behaviour but he did not hear the warning.

The prosecutor said: "The defendant literally walked up to him and stabbed the broken glass bottle into his face, causing a laceration.”

The victim pulled a piece of glass from his face as members of the public helped stem the blood-flow from the wound.

Another witness took the victim's mobile phone from him and used it to take photos of Parkin.

She was tracked on CCTV cameras as she walked through the city centre.

Police officers approached her and she picked up another bottle from the ground and raised it above her head but the officers managed to detain her.

The victim went to hospital where the face wound was cleaned and glued, escaping permanent injury.

Leeds Crown Court heard Parkin, who has 55 previous convictions for 109 offences, was under the influence of the drug Spice at the time.

Martin Morrow, mitigating, said Parkin had a long-standing addiction to heroin and crack cocaine.

Parkin was told she must serve a custodial term of four years, two-thirds of which must be spent in jail – and then a further three years on licence.

Judge Geoffrey Marson QC described the bottle attack as "nasty and premeditated”, and said Parkin was a “dangerous offender”.

She also attacked a prison officer at HMP New Hall on 15 October while she was on remand.

Parkin, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and assaulting an emergency worker.
