Terrified residents watch as wild elephants do battle metres from their village homes

Residents of a village in northeastern India watched in horror on Tuesday (August 25) as two wild elephants did battle metres from their homes. Footage captured in Numaligarh in the Goloaghat district of Assam shows the adult elephants wrestling close to wooden houses as the terrified residents let off fireworks to drive the hefty intruders away. Up to 300 people are killed annually in human-elephant conflicts, according to the WWF.
