Tesco baffles shoppers with rule on Christmas item - but there's a good reason why
Customers at a Tesco store have been left bemused by a new policy limiting them to just 10 tubs of Roses Chocolate each.
Even though the festive season is still a good while off, UK supermarkets are already getting into the Christmas spirit by stocking up on seasonal treats such as Celebrations and Lindt chocolate Santas. Amidst this early onset of holiday festivities, Tesco has caused quite a stir by introducing a purchase limit on Roses Chocolate Tubs.
A Reddit user brought attention to the peculiar rule after spotting a sign in a Tesco store that read: "Chocolate tubs MAX 10 per customer."

The Reddit post, which was met with confusion and the caption "what happened here bro", also featured a photo showing the price of Roses at £6 per tub or a reduced £4.50 for Clubcard holders.
The thread on Reddit quickly turned into a hotbed of theories as hundreds of users chimed in to guess why Tesco would implement such a restriction. According to the Mirror, some commenters speculated that the limit might be an attempt to thwart those who buy the chocolates cheaply with a Clubcard only to sell them on at a higher price, reports the Express.
Other suggestions included the idea that the chocolates were being purchased en masse to be resold later in local corner shops or online via platforms like Amazon.
An astute individual's theory proposing that corporations could be pre-emptively buying bulk quantities of celebratory chocolate tubs to allocate as Christmas gifts for clients has gained traction. The calculated foresight shows that companies stand to save about £210 per pallet by securing the sweet treats now, dodging the anticipated festive price hike.
On Reddit, a perplexed user revealed: "Tbf people do buy more, the other week someone ordered like 3+ pallets of celebrations and other tubs. Filled a large panel van completely."
Another Redditor recalled an odd incident at their local Tesco, mentioning a peculiar restriction: "We have that at my Tesco too, limit of 50 though."
They added, "Watched two men come in and buy an entire pallet of celebrations and then do it again the next day and load it all into an enterprise van. When I asked why they need so many they claimed it was for a 'personal charity' and wouldn't tell me which one."
Speculation is rampant amongst the online community, with some suggesting this policy has been quietly in place for "several years". In contrast, there has been no official word from Tesco confirming such limitations.
The picture remains clouded as only certain stores appear to enforce a cap on confectionery purchases, debunking any notion of a nationwide policy being implemented.
The revelation clearly indicates that when shopping at Tesco, your mileage may vary depending on the store's individual policy on bulk buys.
The supermarket has informed Express.co.uk, "In certain locations, purchase limits on specific items might be enforced to ensure all people can access their needs, and to manage space on the company's Grocery Home Shopping vans."
They stressed that these actions are not in response to a national shortage but rather to guarantee "fairness" for shoppers amid heightened demand.
