A man has been caught red-handed after his little supermarket secret was outed by technology to his wife.

Taking to Reddit, he shared a screenshot taken from his loved one's mobile phone where his eating and drinking habits had seemingly been outed. "Tesco grassed me up to my wife’s Clubcard app," the man moaned, alongside a snap of his 'most bought items in 2024'.

Those items? It appears he purchased a staggering 411 cinnamon swirls from the supermarket's in-store bakery over the 12-month period, as well as caffeine overload of 258 cans of sugar free Red Bull.

Clearly thirsty, the man's third most popular purchase came in the form of cans of Diet Coke - a drink he bought on 219 occasions in the year. Regarding his cinnamon swirl intake, one Reddit user reacted in shock, asking: "That’s one and a bit a day for every day of the year - how often are you buying these?"

"Like two or three whenever I go to the shop before work," the man confessed. "I don’t even like them that much." And he added: "I sometimes leave the edges/crust though so it’s not as bad as it looks."

However, his passion for the cinnamon swirl doesn't end at Tesco it appears. For he continued: "Also at weekends I sometimes get cinnamon swirls from the Co-op near my house. Let it be known that the Co-op's cinnamon swirl game absolutely embarrasses Tesco."

"It prompted one person to declare: "This is absolutely unhinged behaviour, 411 of them and you often waste part of it because they’re not that good. What would the numbers be like if you loved them?"

Sympathising with the man, meanwhile, another Reddit user confessed: "I have a serious sugar problem and looked to see how many KitKats I bought last year. I'm ashamed to say it was over 900 KitKats.

"So far only had 24 this year and I've managed to have the willpower not to order any. I did calorie and nutrient tracking for a week and I had just over 4x the amount of sugar intake. Now I'm down to 1.5x."

Sharing a similar scenario, meanwhile, a second person joked he'd recently caught his wife out in similar fashion. "You think that's bad, I share a Nectar app with my wife, a few days I found out she's our town's number one cherry Pepsi buyer. She out bought the whole town... I'm thinking rehab is needed."

And elsewhere, the man was given a health warning by a concerned member of the CasualUK subreddit community. "You are literally eating a slow moving bullet to the heart," they said. "These are treats. Like, deserts. From an Internet stranger to another, you really need to have a serious talk with yourself. At the very least just get some caffeine from loose leaf tea.

"I'm serious mate, this isn't a morning routine, this is slow diabetic/heart disease aided suicide if you keep this up. Much love, take care of yourself. Leave this routine to a cheat day or weekend at the very least."

Tesco has been approached for comment.
