A woman who lives in a static home has claimed Tesco refused to deliver to her because drivers “felt unsafe”.

Wendy Marks, 53, moved to Mayfield Park in West Drayton, west London, in September last year specifically “because it’s so lovely and peaceful there”.

Marks said the residential park for the over-45s is “the safest place I have ever lived” and had faced no issues receiving home deliveries from Tesco for the past six months.

However, she said a delivery due on 26 April did not arrive during her allotted time slot of between 3pm and 4pm.

At 5pm, she said she checked the online tracker, which had apparently reported that her driver had tried to deliver her order at 2.40pm and failed because she wasn’t home.

But Marks insists she was at home all day on delivery day and claims no driver had attempted to call and tell her that they were trying to deliver her shopping.

She claims the Tesco Yeading store told her “they no longer deliver to ‘caravan parks’ as the drivers felt unsafe” after an incident at a different site three miles away on Mansion Lane in Iver, Buckinghamshire.

She stressed that Mayfield Park is not a ‘caravan park’ but a static home residential park.

Ms Marks said: “Why did no one even have the courtesy to phone me to advise the delivery would not be happening? They just left me sitting there all afternoon waiting.”

She added that she did not understand why deliveries weren’t just stopped at the Mansion Lane site where the incident took place, rather than “discriminating against every other home park in the area”.

Marks said she demanded that she receive her shopping as the money for the order had already been taken from her bank account.

When she eventually received her delivery at 10.30am the next day, she claims “the driver made a big show of constantly looking over his shoulder”.

Marks added: "I asked why, and he said he was being cautious.”

Insisting Mayfield Park is a “lovely and quiet little community”, Marks said the majority of homeowners are pensioners in retirement who “look out for and help each other”.

Marks added: “All the neighbours look out for and help each other."

Following a complaint to the store, a Tesco spokesperson said the supermarket giant had reinstated deliveries to both the Mayfield Park and Mansion Lane sites.

They said: “We’re really sorry for the misunderstanding that led to Ms Marks not receiving her grocery order.

"We have reviewed the store’s delivery locations and are delivering to customers in both Mayfield Park and Mansion Lane.”
