Tesco and Sainsbury's drivers urged to act now and be handed free £136
Tesco and Sainsbury's drivers have been urged to switch to Morrisons for cheaper fuel. Morrisons is on average the cheapest supermarket today, according to the latest RAC figures, which shows how much people are paying.
The average price for unleaded at Morrisons is 131.6p per litre, followed by 131.8p at Asda, 132.6p at Sainsbury's and 133.3p at Tesco. But the lowest price tracked by RAC was at Asda, at 124.7p a litre, while the most expensive was 142.9p a litre at Sainsbury's.
In terms of diesel prices, Asda was cheapest on average at 136.2p a litre, followed by Morrisons at 136.3p, Sainsbury's at 137.1p and Asda at 137.6p. Asda again had the cheapest tracked price at 129.7p a litre, while Sainsbury's had the highest at 145.9p a litre.

It means a Morrisons driver could be paying £72 for a tank - compared to £73.30 a visit at Tesco. Across a year where the average driver fills up twice a week, a driver faces losing £135 a year by choosing the wrong fuel station.
RAC fuel spokesperson Simon Williams said: “To see pump prices drop to this level is really positive news, both for households who depend on their vehicles for getting about, and for the wider economy as there’s a clear link between the cost of fuel and the headline rate of inflation. Depending on where drivers fill up, they can be paying as little as £1.26 for a litre of unleaded – making the cost of refuelling a typical family car come in at under £70.
“A relatively low oil price, caused by lower demand globally, and a relatively strong pound are the two factors that are contributing to pump prices falling. Thankfully, we’re now a long way from the record high prices of July 2022, and we believe there is scope for pump prices to come down further in the next few weeks to reflect the lower wholesale costs retailers are paying when they buy fresh fuel stocks.”
