Tesco shopper 'disgusted and shocked' after claiming to find bug infestation in bag of flour
A Tesco shopper was left 'disgusted and shocked' after claiming she found an infestation of bugs in her freshly-bought bag of flour.
Megan Davies was baking with her grandma when she said she made the discovery in the bag of 79p plain flour which had been purchased two weeks earlier. The 21-year-old claims the bag was crawling with tiny weevils that are known to thrive inside dry foods such as flour.
The university student said she had visited Tesco Extra in Durham with her grandma after clearing out and replacing items in her grandma's cupboards. Megan's grandma wanted to make a Christmas fruit cake, while Megan decided to make herself a chocolate brownie.

On 20 October, Megan claimed she opened the bag of flour to find that it had been infested by weevils. She said they had also got into all of the fresh items in the cupboard causing the pair to chuck their entire shop away, along with the bag of flour, which had an expiry date of February 2025.
Megan, from Durham, told What's The Jam: "I was absolutely disgusted and shocked. I have never come across these before, I bake very frequently and have done since I was a child, so for me to never have come across this it was a big shock.
"I didn't know if it was out of date or just stored incorrectly. I was halfway through making the recipe when I noticed them in the flour, so all my ingredients that had been mixed had to be thrown away.
"Which is just as well considering they also got into the sugar I used. After telling my grandma about them I had to point them out to her in every product in our cupboard.
"She was horrified as she said 'I'd never have noticed them' and they have in fact made their way into the sugar we use for tea."
Weevils, which are also known as flour bugs, can be commonly found in flour, rice, or cornmeal. They get into food by laying their eggs inside grains and seeds, which then hatch and within the food source.
Tesco has been approached for a comment.
