Tesco has upgraded its popular meal deal to keep up with demand for favourites like artisan bread and avocado.

The £3 lunch offer allows hungry shoppers to choose a selected sandwich, snack and drink for the bargain price.

Now frugal foodies can pick up new additions including tuna salad in a sourdough wrap and a chicken, bacon and avocado sandwich - without breaking the bank.

Fancy snacks including a salted caramel tart have also been added to the menu.

Tesco denied claims the new additions had been introduced to rival M&S’s new £3.50 meal deal.

A spokesman told the Mirror: “We have introduced a range of new products to offer customers more choice within our £3 meal deal. Our innovation has been focused on emerging food trends such as the growth of vegetarian, the rise of avocado and artisan breads such as sourdough.

"Our hero product is the chicken, bacon and avocado sandwich which has received great feedback from customers."

Impressed customer took to social media to share feedback on their lunches.

Gary wrote on Twitter: “OMG. Loving the new salted caramel tarts. And in the meal deal too!”

Cammy McAndrews added: “Best news I've heard in a while is that Tesco are adding new items to their meal deal and u can now get beef jerky as a snack option."
