Texas Food Drive Expands Offerings to Help Coronavirus-Impacted Communities

A community center near Austin, Texas, said it has expanded its food drive in light of an increased need for food assistance brought on by the coronavirus.

Circle of Hope Community Center, a nonprofit organization in Pflugerville, Texas, said its food drives normally include fresh fruits and vegetables, but this month’s event will also offer frozen meat, dairy, and dry goods. The center, which partnered with Central Texas Food Bank, said “everyone is welcome” to stop by for food assistance.

The community center said it was distributing pre-packaged food via a drive-thru system to reduce contact amid coronavirus safety measures. This video shows drivers pulling up curbside for workers to place food boxes into their trunks. Credit: Circle of Hope Community Center via Storyful
