Texas teen accused of shooting family with BB gun at Florida beach

WALTON COUNTY, Fla (WDHN) — A 16-year-old visiting from Texas for spring break has been arrested and is facing child abuse, among other charges, after Florida deputies say he shot three kids with a BB pistol this past weekend.

According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, on the evening of Saturday, March 9, deputies rushed to the Adagio Condos in Santa Rosa Beach after receiving a report that someone in a black Audi rolled down a passenger window and fired around 20 rounds from a BB gun at a family walking home from dinner.

Deputies say the BBs hit three different kids, ages 10, 15, and 17.

A release from the WCSO says deputies found the black Audi parked near Seaside School with a Glock-19, Co2 style BB gun lying in the rear passenger floorboard and waited near the car until two people returned.

After questioning the two people who returned to the car, investigators say they identified a 16-year-old from Texas as the main suspect and were able to find the teen by his Snapchat locator.

Deputies claim the 16-year-old teen later admitted he shot BBs at the family walking on the sidewalk and was charged with aggravated battery, shooting deadly missiles from a vehicle, and child abuse.

The 16-year-old was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Crestview.

This is not the first such instance of this happening during Spring Break in Walton County. BBs can cause serious harm to those on the receiving end. This type of behavior is not a game.

Not only is it dangerous for those being shot at, but a weapon of this kind can be mistaken for a real gun, putting others in fear for their lives. Anyone shooting one of these runs the risk of being shot at in return – possibly with a real weapon.
