We've all been there during the rush hour commute as we wait with the masses for a train to come in.

No matter what, it always feels like the carriage you've chosen is the busiest one, leaving you stranded on the platform while everyone else goes on their merry way and you miss the start of Bake Off.

Transport for London knows our pain and is here to help thanks to new technology being trialled at Shoreditch High Street station.

Commuters using the Overground line at the station will now see screens that highlight which carriages of the next train are the busiest, using a straightforward green-amber-red system.

Of course, it's not perfect (what about blind people?), but it's at least a start.

"New technology trialled at Shoreditch High Street station will help customers board trains more easily and help improve reliability," TfL wrote. "A trial of new green-amber-red info screen will show customers which carriages are less busy on next train."

We'll have to wait and see if the technology could ever be applied to the tubes, although TfL has already started to try to make getting on and off tube trains easier as well.

The trial saw a 'green lane' introduced at King's Cross, aimed at encouraging commuters to spread along the platform and not stand in a cluster by the doors. Basically, you weren't meant to stop in the 'green lane'.

You also might not have to fumble around in your wallet or purse looking for your Oyster card soon, instead paying with your face.
