TfL Tube delays: Severe delays on Victoria line after several signal failures and faulty train spark travel misery

Commuters face rush hour mayhem on the Piccadilly and Victoria lines after signal failures and a faulty train caused delays.

Several signal failures affected services on Monday morning, and there was congestion at Bank station during rush hour.

There are still minor delays on the Piccadilly line between Acton Town and Heathrow Airport due to an earlier signal failure at Northfields.

It comes after the Northern, Circle, Hammersmith & City and District lines were all delayed after signal failures at Colindale, Morden, Paddington and Ealing Common.

The District line was earlier suspended between Turnham Green and Ealing Broadway while engineers worked to fix the problem at Ealing Common.

London Overground also reported disruption between Highbury & Islington and West Croydon / Crystal Palace due to a signal failure at Brockley.

Commuters shared their frustration online as the week began with a spate of delays.

Passengers on the District line complained of "abysmal" service.

Responding to an earlier report that the line had been suspended, Julius Crane said: "You really didn't hang around this week. Straight in there with a suspension. There must be a reason for this continuous shambles."

A woman known as Linzi K on Twitter said she had "more chance of seeing a unicorn than going a day without delays" on the line.

Meanwhile one commuter on the Piccadilly line vented his anger in a series of tweets as his 22 minute journey to work took nearly two hours.

Known as Lofty on the site, he wrote: "To be fair, it's my own fault I'm going to be late again. I only left 2 hours to make a 22 minute journey. We've all been around long enough to know 2 hours isn't long enough to make a 22 minute on the Piccadilly line."

He later added: "Left home 90 minutes ago. Still not even half way to work thanks to the always excellent Piccadilly line. Safe to assume this is the first of many severe delays/cancellations on the line this week."

A TfL spokesman said: “ I apologise to our customers affected by the severe delays due to signal failures on several lines on the Tube network this morning.

"Our engineers are on site and working to restore a good service as soon as possible.”

Tickets are being accepted on alternative transport including London Buses, Southern services, Great Northern, Thameslink and Trams via any reasonable route.
