Thailand seeks arrest warrant for Red Bull heir over deadly hit-and-run

Thailand has issued an arrest warrant for Vorayuth Yoovidhaya, an heir to the Red Bull fortune. The order came after he failed for the eighth time to meet prosecutors over an alleged hit-and-run car crash that killed a police officer in Bangkok five years ago. In a televised statement, the Attorney General’s office said it now considers his absences to be a deliberate evasion. The case has sparked controversy in Thailand about whether the justice system favours the rich and famous. Vorayuth is a grandson of the late Chaleo Yoovidhya, creator of the Kratin Daeng, or Red Bull energy drink. Chaleo was listed as the third richest person in Thailand at the time of his death in 2012, with an estimated net worth of some €5 billion, according to Forbes magazine.
