Crossovers have fuelled the comic book world for decades. Bringing characters from one story into another has been a common recurrence. With the growing popularity of superheroes on both the big screen and on television, it’s no wonder that we’re seeing our favourite superheroes cross the threshold into their sister TV shows.

The CW have announced that the network is gearing up for a mega four-way crossover with Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. Yes, that’s right. Now that Supergirl has officially moved from CBS to The CW for its second season, the network’s chief Mark Pedowitz told reporters at its upfront presentation, “It. Belongs. Here.”

Making the crossover news official he said, “Next season, Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and now Supergirl will join forces in our annual crossover event, our biggest ever.”

This isn’t surprising. Arrowverse creator Greg Berlanti’s annual crossover event all kicked off when Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen was introduced in Arrow’s second season, and there have been further crossovers between Arrow and The Flash since. Characters from both shows then made appearances in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’s freshman season. Meanwhile, The Flash popped up in Supergirl when it was on CBS, establishing that the Woman of Steel exists in an alternate universe. But now with Supergirl firmly taking her place on Monday nights at The CW, it shouldn’t be too difficult for the writers to bring her into the ever-growing Arrowverse.
