The Great British Bake Off: Candice bakes to an emotional victory

And we all burst into tears because Bake Off as we know it is finished.

Apart from the BBC Christmas Specials to come, obviously.

From the royal themed 3 layered meringue signature bake through the Victoria Sandwich techy bake to the showstopping 49 piece picnic for the Queen, lippy-loving Candice kept her cool and produced the (baked) goods.

Honours were pretty even all the way through, with Jane and Candice getting the Hollywood Handshake for their signature bakes, but Andrew winning the technical, so it was all to play for come Showstopper time. And what an ask - 1 chocolate celebration cake, 12 scones, 12 quiches, 12 sausage rolls, 12 fruit tarts. “You’ve got 20 minutes, off you go” says Sue.

Andrew stayed calm, sticking to his multicoloured baking spreadsheet like Jane’s white chocolate collar stuck to its base. Candice calmly and methodically worked her way through but the real difference in the end was that Andrew and Jane both had a couple of bakes where the pastry wasn’t quite done, while all of Candice’s picnic was spot on.

Even I feel inspired to bake.

We glimpsed our favourite bakers Selasi and Val - the former is off on a biking tour, while Val will be taking half the viewers with her on her cookery tour of Ayia Napa, which she may not be aware of yet. Candice and Jane are also embarking on a tour together, which begs the question: Who’s got the documentary rights?

Part of the joy of GBBO has been the camaraderie and banter on Twitter. Here are just a few of my favourite finale tweets:
