The Great British Bake Off is returning to TV screens this year, and the Channel 4 show has now released a trailer for the upcoming series.

Judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith will be retuning, while Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding are also coming back to present the show.

The amusing trailer for the upcoming series opens with a news reporter stating that “cake fever is sweeping the nation,” before a cover of All Together Now by The Beatles begins the play.

Shoppers are then seen manically running around in the background outside a supermarket.

After showing the shelves of supermarkets being ravaged, the trailer then shows a number of different people attempting to bake in their kitchens.

One baker even gets down to pray in front of a portrait of Hollywood, before his God-like hand bursts through the painting to offer one of his famous handshakes.

Elsewhere, the surreal trailer sees an elderly woman and a drag queen sitting in a cup of tea, three schoolchildren eat a massive sandwich, and miners sing from an oven while holding pasties.

There’s also a hot air balloon in the shape of a birthday cake and two fencers are seen fighting with baguettes.

Hollywood, Leith, Toksvig and Fielding then get to feature in the trailer in the form of singing cup cakes.

The premiere date of the new series has not yet been revealed, but all previous seasons of the show, even the ones aired on the BBC, have kicked off in August.

Last year’s series began on August 28 and the season before that started on August 29, which suggests this year’s instalment may air around the same time.
