Asked if their son, Capital Breakfast DJ Roman Kemp knew that they had taken part, Shirlie said: "No, this is going to embarrass him. Most people say they are doing it for their kids."
Martin added: "We're doing it to embarrass them."
Roman was suitably embarrassed, tweeting his hilarious reaction to his parents' unmasking.

Emma Bunton and Jade Jones
Geri Halliwell and Christian Horner

Ghost - Unmasked as Chris Kamara
Ghost was first out in episode one, with football pundit Chris Kamara lifting his ghostly sheet to reveal a second skeleton costume underneath, before he was unmasked.
Jellyfish - Unmasked as Amber Riley
Actor, singer and Glee star Amber Riley was unmasked as Jellyfish in the show's semi-final, with Jonathan Ross already having worked out who she was.
Riley said: "I was nervous because I couldn’t see very well and my balance was pretty off and on top of the jet lag there was so much to juggle all at once. But I did it!
"I thought they were way off with the guesses, it was kind of funny to be honest. I KNEW Jonathan Ross would get me though."
Knitting - Unmasked as Claire Richards
Many of the panel had already guessed that Knitting was Steps singer Claire Richards, and so had her bandmate H who had shared his theory on social media while watching the show.
Talking about why she wanted to do it, Richards explained: "I’m a huge fan of the show and the idea of being able to sing without anyone being able to see me is my dream come true.
"I thought I would be fine performing behind the mask but it turns out even when people can’t see my face I get SO nervous. I think I just always want to do a good job and being VERY hot inside my mask didn’t help at all!"
Otter - Unmasked as Daisy May Cooper
Viewers and the judges were surprised to see Otter unmasked as comedian and actor Daisy May Cooper, who said she wanted to do the show for her Masked Singer superfan young daughter Pip.
She added: "It's the best job I've ever done but near the end I was absolutely exhausted. I was gutted to leave because I really fancied the Phoenix…So fit."
Phoenix
Clues: Phoenix made references to rising from the ashes and reinvention. They also claimed they were quiet as a child, and judges are convinced they are an actor. They have made references to reality shows including Strictly Come Dancing, Dancing On Ice and The Apprentice, as well as a time travel clue that seemed to suggest Doctor Who.
Phoenix said they had been on the most watched TV show in 30 years.

Jacket Potato - Unmasked as Richie Sambora
Jacket Potato took his mask off in the semi-final to reveal that he was Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora, as predicted by Davina McCall - although she was left speechless when she realised her guess was right.
Sambora said: "Many of the biggest songs I’ve been a part of from Livin’ On A Prayer to It’s My Life, I sang on, alongside Jon (Bon Jovi), and I just wanted to be able to have fun singing again and show my fans in the UK some love. It’s always been my home away from home!
"It was incredible - like James Bond! - to have to be so secretive but everyday I was able to show up and sing these amazing songs by songwriters and artists that I love so much."
Piece of Cake - Unmasked as Lulu
Week two saw many viewers proved right who had guessed from the clues that Lulu was behind the mask. She said: "My grandchildren love this show, they love it! I love it too and that’s why I’m here. Because it’s such a fun show."
Pigeon - Unmasked as Katherine Ryan
Pigeon's convincing Essex accent saw the panel and many viewers mistake her for Gemma Collins or Stacey Solomon.
When she was unmasked as Katherine Ryan, the comedian said: "I can only do a sort of Essex accent because I watch so much reality TV."
She added: "I was flattered that the panel thought I might actually be from Essex like Gemma Collins or Stacey Solomon."
Rhino
Clues: Rhino called himself "an authority in these parts" as he walked into a town called Cobalt, suggesting a link with the band Blue. Meanwhile, James Arthur has denied claims that he is Rhino and joked that Lewis Capaldi is probably behind the mask.
