The Preacher will see you now

If all your favourite series are taking a break for the summer and you’re desperately looking for something new to watch with your fan on, stop right there because I just found it for you.

AMC’s Preacher is the TV adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s popular comic series of the same name. Developed by Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen and Sam Catlin, the show stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custor, a man with a dark and mysterious past who returns to his hometown of Annville, Texas, to take his father’s place as a preacher. Bored and hopeless, he’s almost about to quit, but when a supernatural entity takes control over him, Jesse develops the power of compelling people to do as he says. Teaming up with his assassin ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), the new preacher in town is now determined to “speak forth the Word of God” and save us all. We don’t know what that means yet, but sure as hell it is going to be pretty good.

So here’s a few reasons why I believe AMC’s Preacher will be the hottest show of the summer:

Dominic Cooper. Has there ever been a sexier preacher? Probably not. Balancing both good and evil, giving sermons and throwing punches, when Cooper/Jesse is on screen, you can’t take your eyes off him. Spot-on casting right there.

Real vampires. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty tired of teenage vampires who get teary-eyed every time they kill someone. Finally, here’s a vampire who’s not afraid nor sorry to suck some blood, pick up fights and have a good time. God bless Cassidy.

Badass women. Tulip won’t be diminished by anybody or anything. She’s unapologetic, she knows how to take care of herself and can make a bazooka from scratch. She’s here to kick some asses and I bloody love that.

It’s a dark comic supernatural drama, so there’s everything for everyone: crazy fight scenes, complex relationships, a good mix of profanity and blasphemy, odd entities, all with a twisted sense of humour on top.

If the pilot was only a tiny taste of what’s to come, I’m dying to see the rest.

Episode 2 will air on AMC on 5 June. The Preacher will see you then.
