The UK’s most popular pizza topping has been revealed - and it’s mushroom
Mushroom has been revealed as the UK’s most popular pizza topping.
In a surprise result, mushroom topped the poll ahead of onions, ham, peppers and pepperoni.
Two-thirds of Britain like mushroom on their pizzas, the survey by YouGov revealed.
Pineapple, which has been the subject of much controversy in pizza circles in recent weeks, came a lowly ninth.
To add to the humility, it had to share that position with sweetcorn.

Last month, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, the president of Iceland (the country), said he wished he could ban pineapple as a pizza topping.
He was later forced to clarify his remarks, saying his was merely a personal preference and that he didn’t have the power to outlaw the fruit on pizza.
The controversy may have led to pineapple’s slide down the pizza popularity charts.
The poll by YouGov found that only 53 per cent of Britons like pineapple on their pizza.
It came a long way behind top topping mushroom, liked by 65 per cent of UK pizza lovers.
Second place went to onions with 62 per cent, followed by ham with 61 per cent, peppers on 60 per cent and pepperoni and chicken – both with 56 per cent.
Four in ten Britons said they actively dislike pineapple on their pizza, while 15 per cent of those surveyed would like to ban it.
However, of the toppings the British public want banned from pizzas, pineapple only came fifth – anchovies, olives and tuna were the least liked.
Alarmingly, 2 per cent of those surveyed said they only liked Margherita pizzas.
The survey of 3,600 adults found that men are much more likely than women to like meat on their pizza.
Men are also much more likely to enjoy chillies and jalapenos, whilst women are bigger fans of spinach.
The older people get the more likely they are to prefer having mushroom or tomato as a topping, and less likely to want chicken, pepperoni, sweetcorn and pork.
