The Voice: Mo beats Into the Ark to win record contract

The finale of the The Voice saw a gobsmacked Mo Adeniran win that coveted record deal.

He might be on Twitter (@Imjustcalledmo) but he obviously hasn’t been checking the timeline or any of the many many polls (70% on mine), because Mo seemed genuinely shocked as Emma called his name.

He pipped the Welsh boys Jamie Miller and Into the Ark, in quite possibly the most endearing final of any reality show ever.

The first round saw them reprise their favourite performances.

Jamie chose Shape of You but sadly, it wasn’t his best though it picked up once he got onto the stage. Still, bless, he’s only 19 and has so much presence.

Into the Ark went with Hold On, We’re Coming Home which showed both of them off. I love the contrast of their voices, although there were a couple of off moments where nerves seemed to have kicked in. Loving the audience break into a quick “Happy Birthday to you” for Taylor, 21 today.

Mo ramped up the intensity for Iron Sky – and that backdrop image, wow! Timeless, as JHud said. After nearly not getting a word in, Gavin captured the feeling: “You have the voice of a generation.”

The vote was frozen and in third place – Jamie. While we waited, John Legend reprised his recent St.Pancras gig. And we very cleverly ignored the gatecrasher who was chased off the stage by security.

Introductions to the two final songs would’ve been appreciated, especially as one of them will be the winner’s first single. Never mind, we have video.

Runners up Into the Ark performed Not A One

While our winner Mo wasn’t at all Unsteady …

A stage invasion follows, with funky music proving that Into the Ark are actually secret soul boys (Tom’s influence?), and we’re all done for another year.

Brace yourselves for the kids version, coming soon.
