The X Factor 2016: Ryan Lawrie hits back at critics after being saved for THIRD time

The X Factor’s Ryan Lawrie has hit back at viewers criticism after he was saved from the sing-off for the THIRD time in a row.

Following Sunday night’s elimination, Ryan – who was in the bottom three alongside 4 of Diamonds and Gifty Louise – took to Twitter to suggest why he thinks he isn’t getting the votes.

He explained to his growing fan base: “I’m gonna be honest here. I don’t get the votes from the older generation… but I sure as hell get them from all of you beautiful people!!”

The Scottish singer then posted a longer statement, exceeding the 140-character limit, explaining why he’s taking part in the music competition – and to clarify that it’s not just about becoming famous.

“For those who have just got to know me on The X Factor. I am not just some boy who jumps around and is trying to become ‘Famous’,” he wrote. “I am here for a reason and that reason is to make a career in music.

“I am NOT the strongest singer in the competition and I know that I’m probably (most likely) not going to win, but what I can say is I am a human being with a dream and I am trying to make it become reality.”

Opening up about his appetite for songwriting, Ryan added: “I am a songwriter. This is my first love and my main passion. I have been writing since I was a young boy and that is where my talent is.

“I am a loving and genuine boy. I wish the vest (sic) for everyone. I just wish people would understand that I’m just doing what I love.”

Ryan performed Everybody by the Backstreet Boys during Saturday night’s Fright Night special, but faced backlash online after being saved via the Lifeline vote, and avoiding the dreaded sing-off for the third consecutive time.

One viewer said: “Ryan getting saved three times by the Lifeline Vote officially makes it the worst twist in #XFactor history.” As another added: “How does Ryan keep getting saved on the lifeline vote?! Every week?! #XFactorFrightNight.”

Former Liberty X star Michelle Heaton also chimed in, writing: “The ryan dude from X Factor .. who is voting for him ?? Come on seriously (sic).” In a now-deleted tweet, Ryan then hit back: “Got a bigger fanbase than you babe.”

Yikes! Can we come out from behind the sofa now?

The X Factor continues on ITV1 on Saturday at 8pm.
