There's Another Gwyneth Paltrow Ski Trial Musical
After Gwyneth Paltrow's ski trial captured our attention winter 2023, there are now not one but two musicals adapting the affair. The first, Gwyneth Goes Skiing, premiered last December; a second, I Wish You Well, premiered at Edinburgh Fringe Festival this month. (Gwyneth Goes Skiing was also part of the Edinburgh lineup.)
I Wish You Well tells the tale of Paltrow's trial, where she was sued by retired optometrist Terry Sanderson for a crash on the Deer Valley Resort ski slope, and takes its name from what Paltrow told Sanderson at the conclusion of the trial. The show is now heading to London's West End, and will premiere on September 11, 2024 at the Criterion Theater.
The production stars Diana Vickers as Paltrow, Marc Antolin as Sanderson, Tori Allen-Martin as Kristin VanOrman (Sanderson's lawyer), and Idriss Kargbo as Judge Jude. All four actors will return for the West End run.
"I, like the rest of the world, love true crime and celebrity scandal," Rabheru said in a statement ahead of the Edinburgh premiere. "The Gwyneth Paltrow ski trial had me hooked and I was addicted to the iconic memes and tweets. The hope with I Wish You Well is to feed our audiences fascination with celebrity crime, and pack in even more campery and chaos. We all need a little more joy and silliness in the world and collaborating with Roger, Rick, Arlene and Paul on this fabulous show has had me laughing so hard I’ve needed my inhaler! Ski you in court!?"
I Wish You Will features a book and lyrics by Roger Dipper and Rick Pearson, choreography by Arelene Phillips, and is produced by Paul Taylor-Mills. It is directed by Shiv Rabheru. Tickets are now on sale, here.
