Theresa May's 10th political adviser quits Downing Street
Theresa May's tenth political adviser is leaving Downing Street after less than a year in the role.
John Godfrey, the Prime Minister's policy chief, is the latest in a long line of senior aides to quit his senior post.
It comes just weeks after her joint chiefs of staff, Fiona Hill and Nick Timothy, were forced to step down after facing fierce criticism over their role in the Tory election campaign.
Mr Godfrey, a former executive at financiers Legal & General, is a point man with government ministers.
A Conservative source said the former Home Office adviser was leaving with "good wishes".
It is understood that his deputy Will Tanner announced he was stepping down last week.
Yesterday it was reported that Chris Brannigan, Mrs May's head of Government relations, has also quit.
Other departures from Number 10 in recent months have included former director of communications Katie Perrior and spokeswoman Lizzie Loudon.
They both stepped down following Mrs May's decision to call a snap election.
