Liverpool fans came together over the past 24 hours to celebrate the footballing career of Thiago Alcantara after he announced his retirement.

The midfielder had a difficult season last year, suffering from injuries throughout, which prevented him from making any sort of impact in Jurgen Klopp's farewell campaign. He was released on the expiration of his contract in June, and over the weekend, reports suggested he was to retire.

On Monday, the man himself confirmed the news on social media but hinted that he wanted to 'give back' to football. In our latest look at the media headlines, it appears he has been offered this opportunity almost immediately.

Thiago offered immediate return to football

According to Sport, Thiago has been offered a chance to return to football less than 24 hours after retiring. It is believed Barcelona's manager, Hansi Flick, is keen to bring Thiago on board as a coach in Catalonia this summer.

Thiago is thought to be keen to commence his coaching career and is inclined to accept the offer from Barca. Before joining Liverpool and Bayern Munich, the 33-year-old was a star in Pep Guardiola's midfield at Camp Nou.

Cult hero banished

In an interview with reporters, AC Milan advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted he has banished Liverpool cult hero Divock Origi. Explaining his decision, the Swede said: "Divock Origi and Fodé Ballo-Toure are not part of our plans.

"They will be part of the youth team as they’re not included in our project." The Belgian returned to the Premier League last season on a loan spell at Nottingham Forest but only scored once in 22 appearances for the East Midlands club.
