Thibaut Courtois wants Chelsea stay, hopes for good contract as a 'reward'

Thibaut Courtois insists he wants to stay at Chelsea and is hoping for a bumper contract as a "reward" for his fine season.

The Chelsea goalkeeper collected the Premier League Golden Glove award this season as Antonio Conte's side won the title, with the Belgium No.1 keeping 16 clean sheets this season - one more than closest rival Hugo Lloris at Tottenham.

The Blues were unable to complete the second Double in their history on Saturday though as Arsenal ran out surprise 2-1 winners in the FA Cup Final at Wembley.

Courtois' future has been the subject of much speculation, with Real Madrid linked with the former Atletico Madrid loanee on numerous occasions.

Despite those transfer rumours, Courtois told Sky Sports after the FA Cup Final that he is just waiting for Chelsea to open talks over a new deal - one which the 25-year-old fully intends to sign.

"Contract talks haven't opened but I am happy at Chelsea," Courtois said.

"I hope they reward me with a good contract then there will be no doubt I will sign it."

Courtois has set his sights on emulating the longevity of his idol Gianluigi Buffon, and also wants to keep playing until the age of 39.

Buffon has been one of the best keepers in the world for the past two decades and will be in goal for Juventus in the Champions League Final against Real Madrid next week.

Courtois told Standard Sport before the FA Cup Final: "To see Buffon playing to such a level at this age is great. I’m 25 and he is 14 years older than me.

"Obviously if I can still play at the level he is in 14 years’ time, I will be very satisfied.

"Obviously I hope nothing happens - injuries can always change the future. But I love football, I enjoy being on the training pitch, in the stadium.

"I guess I will still feel the same in 10 to 15 years’ time and I hope in that moment I can still produce and be at this level."
