Dark orange smoke clouds hovered over South Lake Tahoe on August 17 as the Caldor Fire continued to grow in size.

This footage, taken by Wes Richey, shows the orange glow lingering over the mountains as a narrow gap of blue sky hung over the horizon.

Nearby, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s office issued evacuation orders and warnings for affected areas.

According to local government statistics, the blaze was sparked on August 14 and has since spread to 53,772 acres (84 square miles) and remains at zero percent containment. Credit: Wes Richey via Storyful
