Things to do in London this week

We might sadly wave goodbye to the heatwave, but there's no need to be sad when there's this much to see.

Here's what you can get up to this coming week.

Sunrise Yoga

The sunrise looks better from up high – 36 floors high to be exact. Sky Garden is hosting morning yoga classes at 6.30am, with unbeatable views. Surrounded by tropical plants and looking out over the city, the one hour class is followed by breakfast, when you can have a buffet, continental style, before heading off to work.

Every morning at 6:30am, 1 Sky Garden Walk, EC3M 8AF, skygarden.london

Fashion Means Business

People, planet, profit and purpose are at the heart of the London College of Fashion’s exhibition, Fashion Means Business. The showcase at arebyte on London City Island displays artworks that are the product of animation and digital processes by students from the business school, who put social change at the centre of their work. Experience it through immersive digital installations.

April 25 - 29, arebyte, Java House, 7 Botanic Square, London City Island, E14 0LG, arebyte.com

Time for a photogenic feast. Blogger and author Erin Niimi Longhurst, whose new book Japonisme came out last week, and nutritional scientist, chef and founder of The Urban Kitchen Toral Shah, join up for an evening of delicious and beautiful food. They will also be talking about Japanese lifestyle, including Ikebana (flower arranging), so you can spruce up your own home with spring blooms.

April 25, Benk and Bo, 4-6 Gravel Lane, E1 7AW, benkandbo.com

Guzzle Laurent-Perrier

A killer view and a glass of champagne – is there anything more lovely? Rumpus Room, the Mondrian’s excellent sky high bar, is turning entirely pink in celebration of 50 years of Laurent-Perrier’s rosé champagne, Cuvée Rosé. Enjoy a glass or three looking over the Thames; it’s a pretty unparalleled view.

Mrs & Mr Bateman invite you into their home for a four-day housewarming, where you can leave with any items you like. The art, fashion and interiors installation allows you to experience an art show curated by Selena Beaudry, Clemmie Myers and Natalie Tredgett, where you can dress up in the clothes being exhibited. NB: this doesn’t go down so well at real house parties.

Bismillah!

Two young men sit in a basement in Northern Iraq, talking about when they used to work in Wetherspoons. Dean is a soldier from Leeds and Danny joined Islamic State. Bismillah! An ISIS Tragicomedy opens at the Pleasance Theatre this week, exploring the experiences of disenfranchised young people in today’s Britain and times of upheaval. The play was shortlisted for an Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award when it premiered in 2015, so is well worth a watch.

April 24 - May 13, Pleasance Theatre, Carpenters Mews, North Road, N7 9EF, pleasance.co.uk

Time to See

80 per cent of people who have lost their sight could have avoided it. Four photographers – Poulomi Basu, Sam Faulkner, Adam Ferguson, Ashley Gilbertson and Andrew Quilty – travelled to seven countries around the world to document those affected and the pioneers in eye health trying to prevent avoidable blindness. A free exhibition of the work which spans from Australia to Uganda, Pakistan to Nigeria, is on show along London Bridge City Pier until May 4.

MADE Craft Fair

Contemporary design fair MADE returns this week with more than 90 makers will be showcasing art, sculpture, jewellery, ceramics and textiles at Canary Wharf’s East Wintergarden from April 25 – 29. From Aline Johnson’s kiln-formed glassworks, to luxury, sustainable textiles from (the aptly named) Pamela Print (aptly named).

Stewart Lee

This is the last you’ll see of Stewart Lee for a while, as he’s taking a break from stand-up after Content Provider. His current show at the Royal Festival Hall sees him mocking Brexit, Trump, Game of Thrones and his own place in the “metropolitan liberal elite”. Catch this before it’s too late.

Sharp suits and equally sharp hairstyles set the Teddy boys and girls apart. In post-war Elephant & Castle, where the destruction of the Blitz still looms, two youngsters meet at a party and soon find themselves on someone’s hit list. Teddy premiered at the Southwark Playhouse in 2015, but returns with a live rock’n’roll band to the Vaults in Waterloo.
