Things to do this May Bank Holiday: Where to have a big weekender

May is the month that keeps on giving. The weather (usually) hots up, the capital’s rooftop bars reopen for summer and, best of all, it brings two bank holidays.

Now the capital is in full party mode and London is set for a scorcher with three days of sunshine. Here’s where to celebrate this weekend.

Up on the roof

Tomorrow the Prince of Wales in Brixton hosts its first Disco Bottomless Brunch of the summer on its famous sun-soaked roof terrace.

Sin City is going east to the Queen of Hoxton’s new Lost Vegas Rooftop on Sunday. Feast on vegan bites from an abandoned yellow school-bus bar, sip on artisan cocktails and meet Elvis.

Nearby, you can party under a towering gherkin this weekend. The Culpeper’s rooftop in Whitechapel has a new backdrop for its summer sessions: a giant eight-foot green fibreglass gherkin. The pub’s cocktails and dishes will feature fresh cucumbers and pickles grown right there on the roof.

Alfresco fever

The Last Days of Shoreditch in Old Street launches its Enchanted Garden this weekend with live music, street food and an adult slide and ball pit, and the South Bank will be transformed for the bank holiday with tapas, Andalusian cocktails and flamenco dancers for Feria de Londres.

On Monday, street-food crusaders Kerb’s Jam on Rye will feature reggae, afrobeat and new-wave jazz in Peckham Rye Park.

Canal-side carnage

To stay cool, head to the water. The White Building in Hackney Wick is hosting a 14-hour Flamingo Pier Day & Night Canal Party on Saturday. It kicks off with an alfresco jam on the Crate Brewery terrace, moving upstairs to a new loft space with live DJs until the early hours, while Neverland is hosting a Bank Holiday Beach Party by the river in Fulham. There’s yoga and frosé on Saturday and a bottomless brunch on Sunday — free frozen margaritas before 2pm on both days.

Free-flowing feasts

The Little Blue Door in Fulham is hosting an unlimited hangover-busting brunch for the bank holiday with BIY (blend it yourself) cocktails.

In Farringdon on Saturday, The Piano Works’ Brunch to the Beat will serenade you over your eggs, and on Monday Aster on Victoria Street has an ABBA-themed brunch for Super Trouper fans.

Over in Covent Garden, Mexican restaurant Cantina Laredo is laying on an unlimited four-course brunch all weekend with free-flowing margaritas, prosecco, Corona or wine. Bunga Bunga Battersea is hosting a Sunday Supper Club with two hours of bottomless bellinis and pizza.
