'I Think I Drove Into a Tornado': Driver Encounters Swirling Debris in Springfield, New Jersey

A motorist drove through swirling debris in Springfield, New Jersey, on August 7 as the National Weather Service said a tornado touched down in the vicinity.

The National Weather Service confirmed the EF-0 touched down near Springfield Avenue and Route 22. The radar estimated 70 miles per hour winds accompanied the weak twister.

A storm system in the area caused downed power lines and widespread flooding, according to NJ.com. The Newark Police Department warned drivers about flooded roads and said the Department of Public Safety had conducted 11 water rescues of drivers trapped in their vehicles.
