Following the weekend's Blue Planet II finale, our Sunday evenings will now no longer consist of awe-inspiring shots of creatures we had never heard of before, accompanied by David Attenborough's soothing voice.

However, fret not as the show's producer has revealed a third series is possible – after all, 70% of the Earth is covered in water, so there are quite a few stories to tell.

"I will always be excited for a potential Blue Planet III," Orla Doherty told Digital Spy.

"The ocean is always going to keep telling us new things, we're always going to be making new discoveries down there. It's the habitat on earth that we know the least, the deep most of all.

"As long as we have amazing scientists out there exploring it, which we do, and luckily we have more and more of them as time goes on, then we're always going to have amazing new stories to tell."

She added of where they could go next: "I would love to try to do more filming in the deep ocean, I think it's the most exciting place to be on this planet.

"I would be all about trying to tell more stories from down there."

We are sure if they wanted to go ahead with a third series, it would be a definite yes from the BBC.

After all, Blue Planet II is the most-watched show of 2017, beating the likes of Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor.

Blue Planet II is available now on BBC DVD and Blu-ray from Amazon.
