This adorable shelter dog can’t stop smiling after finding a new home with his favourite stuffed toy

A shelter dog has become something of an online celebrity after pictures showed him constantly SMILING when he found out he had a new home.

Smokey was brought to the Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Centre in Ohio last month after his family lost their home.

The five-year-old had grown depressed after being abandoned by his owners and wouldn’t go anywhere without his favourite stuffed elephant for comfort.

However, Smokey has now got the biggest smile on his face after finding a new home – both for himself AND his cuddly toy, after shelter staff put up a sign that said they came as a pair.

It was decided that the stress of being placed in a shelter meant he could not be adopted by the public.

However, the I Have A Dream Rescue Organisation decided they would be the ones to take him in.

Group founder Misti Martin-Fuller told The Dodo: “He will be offered back to his family first.

“If that is not an option, we will provide Smokey with as much time as he and his elephant need.”

Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center spokesperson Susan Smith added: “He’ll do much better when he’s out of the kennel.

”He’s going to do much better in a different environment.”
