This animal lover built a ladder for stray cats to come in from the cold

An animal lover has built a ladder for stray cats so they can climb into her home and out of the cold.

Şebnem Ilhan, from the town of Tekirdag in Turkey, wanted her house to be a sanctuary for the shivering kitties.

But there was a problem – how could they get up to her window from the frozen ground below?

The answer is a cat ladder.

Because it’s been a particularly cold winter in the town, Ms Ilhan decided to open her home to the moggies.

“I made the ladder so the cats can come into my comfortable house,” she told The Dodo.

She was worried the ladder might cause conflict with her neighbours, so decorated the ladder with flowers.

“I thought if I put some flower pots there, it wouldn’t bother anyone,” she said.

A number of stray cats have used the ladder as a way to find refuge from the cold.

Ms Ilhan, a dentist in the town, said: “I wish no animal is hungry or thirsty, just happy.

“This world is not just for people.”
