This family spans a whopping SIX generations, from 103 down to less than a month

This family is thought to be the only one in Britain that spans SIX generations.

Finley James Mellor is the newest addition to a family whose eldest member is aged 103.

Just after his birth on Christmas Day Finley got to meet great-great-great grandmother Hilda Hanson, completing an amazing chain of 44 family members.

Five of the six generations of the family got together at Hilda’s home at Springfield Care Home in Bradford, West Yorkshire, for what new great-grandma Sue Godward said was a wonderful day.

Sue, 62, said: “Hilda – my grandma – has Alzheimer’s so we know she won’t remember little Finley’s visit but she had a wonderful time in the moment and it was so special for the rest of our family.”

She said: “She was so pleased to see him and gave him lots of cuddles and kissed his head, she had a big smile on her face and we all loved it.

“Finley held her finger and which was lovely. It was a moment we’ll never forget.”

Hilda now sits at the top of a huge family.

Her son Frank Cottam, 84, and daughter-in-law Jean Cottam, 83, live in the seaside town of Morecambe, Lancashire, and couldn’t make the gathering.

But Sue, who lives in Bradford with partner Lenny Berry, 62, said there is a family reunion planned for February when they are going to get a big family portrait done.

The rest of the family include great-granddaughter, pub landlady Melissa Mellor, 37, who lives in Cannock, Staffordshire, with 18-year-old single mum, Aimee Mellor, who is Hilda’s great-great granddaughter.

And little Finley finishes it off as Hilda’s great-great-great grandson.

Sue said: “The family just keeps getting bigger and bigger.”

The Guinness World Record for most generations ever is seven, which was achieved in 1989 by a family in America.

But Sue is convinced her family is the only one is the UK which has reached the dizzy heights of six.

She added: “It’s a real achievement to have six generations and when we finally all get together it will be really special.

“Finley is gorgeous and we’re really lucky to have him complete our wonderful family.”
