This Injured Koala Bear Has Eyes That Make Her Look Like David Bowie

An injured koala bear whose eyes make her look like David Bowie is recovering after a car accident.

Staff at Australia Zoo have nicknamed her “Bowie” because she has different coloured eyes like the late singer - one is blue and one is brown.

She was found on a roadside near Brisbane last month after apparently being hit by a car.

The animal’s eyes are the result of heterochromia, while Bowie had a permanently dilated left pupil, giving the appearance that he had one blue and one brown eye.

Vets at Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital said there is no problem with the koala bear’s eyesight.

Although the koala has a limp, she avoided major injuries in the accident and is expected to be released back into the wild soon.

Australia Zoo and its charity, Wildlife Warriors, posted images of the koala on Facebook and said: “This gorgeous girl is named Bowie.

“Check out those eyes! She’s staying at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital under the care of Wildlife Warriors following a close call with a car.

“She escaped major injury and was found to have heterochromia, a genetic condition that causes reduced pigmentation in the iris.

“Heterochromia is rare in koalas so naturally, we’re all mesmerised by her.”
