This Is What Gin Lovers Have In Common, Apparently

There are two types of people in this world: Those who constantly crave a gin and tonic, and those who don’t.

Though gin lovers would be quick to think there’s something unusual about gin haters, it turns out that it’s actually the other way around, as researchers have found gin fans have a peculiar trait in common.

Researchers from Innsbruck University in Austria have found that those of us who love a G&T are more likely to have psychopathic tendencies than people who prefer sweeter drinks.

Or as they put it: “Bitter taste preferences are linked to malevolent personality traits.”

Uh oh.

To reach this conclusion, the researchers conducted two separate studies on 1,000 people.

They asked the first 500 people to look at a long list of different foods and drinks and rank how much they liked each item of a scale of one to six.

They then completed four separate personality questionnaires which measured their levels of aggression, including emotional stability, Machiavellianism and tendency towards everyday sadism.

This experiment was then repeated with the another sample of 500 people, confirming the results of the first - concluding that people who tend to enjoy bitter foods and drinks such as coffee or gin and tonic are more likely to display tendencies of “Machiavellianism, psychopathy, narcissism, and everyday sadism”.

So if you start your day with a coffee, and end it with a gin and tonic, don’t say we didn’t warn you.
