Here’s a look at the best matchups in the NHL this week.

Detroit Red Wings at New York Rangers

Friday, Jan. 31 at 7:00 p.m. ET

This Eastern Conference matchup will be one looking towards the future. The New York Rangers (23-21-4, 50 points) and the Detroit Red Wings (12-35-4, 28 points) both bolster some highly-skilled young talent to get the fans out of their seats. From Red Wings forward Filip Zadina to Rangers defenceman Adam Fox, there will be tons of potential on the ice when these two teams face off on Friday. With Rangers forward and Hart Trophy candidate Artemi Panarin on the ice as well, there is always the possibility of a highlight reel play.

Colorado Avalanche at Philadelphia Flyers

Saturday, February 1 at 7:00 p.m. ET

The Colorado Avalanche (28-15-6, 62 points) are one of the NHL’s most entertaining teams this season and they will have their work cut out for them against the Philadelphia Flyers (27-17-6, 60 points) on Saturday night. The Western Conference team is carrying a three-game win streak into this matchup, while the Flyers have won their last two — one will have to end. Colorado has scored the second-most goals in the league this season and Philadelphia’s mediocre defense can be potentially overrun by the likes of Nathan MacKinnon.

Anaheim Ducks at Los Angeles Kings

Saturday, February 1 at 10:30 p.m. ET

If there was a must-watch rivalry in the NHL, the battle between the Anaheim Ducks (19-24-5, 43 points) and the Los Angeles Kings (18-27-5, 41 points) will be towards the top of the list. Saturday’s contest will no doubt have a heap of physical battles as these two California teams face one another. While both teams are currently sitting outside of a playoff spot, this will be the third matchup between the Ducks and Kings who split the previous two. Both teams will surely give it their all to take the season series lead.

Boston Bruins at Minnesota Wild

Saturday, February 1 at 8:00 p.m. ET

The Boston Bruins (29-10-12, 70 points) sit on top of the Atlantic Division, but have the Tampa Bay Lightning (29-15-4, 62 points) and the Florida Panthers (28-16-5, 61 points) in hot contention for their spot in the standings. The Bruins will no doubt need all of their offensive stars when they visit the defensively elite Minnesota Wild (23-21-6, 52 points) on Saturday. Leading the NHL in goals scored with 37 in 51 games, Bruins forward David Pastrnak has scored only twice versus the Wild through the seven times he’s been up against them. Pastrnak’s team will need him against this stingy Minnesota squad.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Washington Capitals

Sunday, February 2 at 12:30 p.m. ET

Nothing like taking part in one of the NHL’s top rivalries on a Sunday afternoon. When the Washington Capitals (33-11-5, 71 points) and the Pittsburgh Penguins (31-14-5, 67 points) play each other, it will be a battle of the two top teams in the Metropolitan Division and the first matchup this season. With Sidney Crosby back to full health and Alexander Ovechkin surging with a mind-blowing eight goals in his last three games, the historic feud between two of the sport’s best will be reignited.
