Thomas Cashman aimed foul-mouthed rant to police in custody after he was arrested
Thomas Cashman aimed a foul-mouthed rant at Merseyside Police officers after he was arrested on suspicion of murdering Olivia Pratt-Korbel. The footage was broadcast on the third episode of Merseyside Detectives, which aired tonight.
The fly-on-the-wall documentary follows the force's investigation into the murders of Olivia and Ashley Dale. Wednesday's episode started as armed police raid a property owned by Cashman. Cashman confirms his identity before he is arrested.
Once in the back of the van, Cashman pleaded his innocence as shouted: "What are you arresting me for?" An officer confirms Cashman has been arrested on suspicion of one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Cashman described this as a "load of b*****t." The documentary has exclusive access into the force's investigations as footage was shown of Cashman in custody.
He told officers: "I'm just looking right through your face there now. Not even looking at you, lad, just looking through you." He added: "What are we waiting for? I'm good to go. I'm ready. I've done nothing wrong at all."
Cashman interrupted officers as his offences are read out, namely that he was responsible for the murder of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel and the attempted murder of Cheryl Korbel and Joseph Nee. Cashman said: "It’s a load of s**t, it’s nothing to do with me.
"I haven’t f*****g done anything like that. I committed no offences like what you've just said. I'm just f*****g telling you having my f*****g say-so, that's a load of s**t and it's nothing to do with me and I haven't committed none of them offences."
The documentary shows footage from Detective Superintendent Mark Baker's investigation, who told officers at a briefing that Cashman already had a criminal record. He said: "We've made an arrest of Thomas Cashman.
"He's been named by numerous members of the community following appeals from the investigation team and also from two witnesses. We strongly believe Thomas Cashman to be the gunman and we just need to prove it or rule him out."
He added: "It's alleged and rumoured in the community that he's shot other people. He's got previous convictions linking him to serious organised crime.
"Some of the offences for which he's been arrested, there's been no charges progressed because witnesses and victims have withdrawn their support. He appears to be somebody that commits crime and gets away with it."
Cashman was found guilty of Olivia's murder on March 30, 2023. Jurors made the unanimous decision after nine hours and three minutes of deliberations. Cashman was also found guilty of attempting to murder Joseph Nee, wounding with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm against Cheryl Korbel and two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life
Days later, on April 3, 2023, Cashman was due to return to court for sentencing but refused to appear in the dock to learn his fate. Justice Amanda Yip described his actions as "disrespectful to the family of the deceased". He was sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 42 years.
