With the show airing this week, here's all you need to know about Thomas Markle: My Story

When will the documentary air on TV?

Thomas Markle: My Story will air at 9pm on Wednesday, January 22, on Channel 5.

The programme will last for 90 minutes.

What will the programme cover?

Cameras followed Mr Markle around for the six days, with the interview focusing on his "complicated" relationship with his daughter and their "dramatic fall out", which covers the run-up to her wedding in May 2018 and the speculation over his attendance.

Mr Markle also airs his thoughts on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's shock announcement that they will step back as senior royals, giving insight into his thoughts behind their decision.

"It's disappointing because she actually got every girl's dream," he says in the interview. "Every young girl wants to become a princess and she got that and now she's tossing that away, for, it looks like she's tossing that away for money."

Mr Markle adds: "This is like one of the greatest long-living institutions ever. They are destroying it, they are cheapening it, they're making it shabby ... They are turning it into a Walmart with a crown of it now.

"It is something that is ridiculous, they shouldn't be doing this."

The documentary will also chart Meghan's early years, when she lived with her father between the ages of 11 and 18, and how their lives have changed since.

A video posted on Channel 5's Twitter page shows Mr Markle saying: "I'm Archie's grandpa. I'm Thomas Markle, and this is my story."
