Thomas Tuchel says talks with Chelsea over a new contract have been put on the backburner while he focuses everything on getting the Blues to the Champions League Final

Tuchel was only given an 18-month deal when he was appointed in January but he is in line for an extension after his flying start to his reign at Stamford Bridge.

It had been reported that discussions have taken place over a new long-term contract.

But Tuchel says now “is not the right time” and insists all his focus is on Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid.

Chelsea are 90 minutes away from the Champions League Final after a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Spain last week.

Asked whether discussions had taken place with Chelsea over a new contract, Tuchel said at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday: “No, nothing on that.

“It is not the right time. There is no time for this right now.”

Tuchel is confident Chelsea can see off Real and follow Chelsea Women after they reached the Champions League Final over the weekend.

Tuchel said: “We feel we can do this. They [Chelsea Women] did it after a difficult first leg and showed belief.

“We feel we can be stronger. Now we have rested players, we had three days in between games for rest, the challenge is to keep the intensity going throughout the whole match.

“It is a semi-final. The pressure is on, it’s a knockout game and so to arrive with a level of belief and confidence is necessary, or we will have no chance.”
