A Marvel movie without a post-credits sequence is like a sky without stars. So we weren't at all surprised that in Thor: Ragnarok, there are two. But one of them could have turned out quite different, according to director Taika Waititi.

Speaking with Digital Spy, Waititi revealed an alternate version of the scene. We're going to discuss this in detail below but it is, of course, a spoiler for the post-credits sting. So if you don't want to know, get away with you, and don't watch the video of the interview just yet.

Here's a picture of Cate Blanchett as death goddess Hela to emphasise just how serious we are when we say SPOILERS FOR THE POST CREDIT SEQUENCE INCOMING.

Welcome back.

So as mentioned, Thor: Ragnarok has two bonus scenes. There's a mid-credits scene which ties into the MCU, which we're not going to talk about. Then there's a post-credits scene which is more for fun, which we are going to talk about, and so too is Jeff Goldblum, the star of that sequence.

At the end we see Goldblum's Grandmaster in the trash pile on Sakaar – his 'people' have staged a revolution and he's gone into hiding, but the revolutionaries have found him. In classic Grandmaster fashion, he tries to talk himself out of if ("you should all give yourself a pat on the back").

Goldblum and Waititi revealed that was just one of many versions they improvised and shot.

"There's a Goldblum easter egg!" the actor revealed. "My character Grandmaster surprisingly reappears at the end to say something. It's one of my improvised moments! I can't remember what I say, I want to see it again! Because we said 20 things on the day."

And director Waititi elaborates, adding: "We even did the Sakaarian national anthem which we made up on the spot, which will hopefully be on the DVD at some point.

"That was something we had so much fun doing. He tried to start a new revolution to topple the old revolution with the people who were ousting him. All sort of different things emerged from that.

"The great thing about Jeff is he's so receptive to new things. Most of the stuff involving him in the film was stuff we found on the day on set, because he's a genius at improvising and he's willing to try anything."

Check out the video, where the two also discuss the possibility of a female Thor and why they changed that Hela scene from New York to Norway.

Thor: Ragnarok opens on October 24 in the UK and November 3 in the US.
