Thorpe Park offers discounted tickets to young people who register to vote

Thorpe Park is attempting to get young people to register to vote by promising them cheap tickets into the resort.

With the deadline to register to vote in the General Election less than one week away, the younger generation are being offered the thrill-ride incentive to ensure they have their say.

Anyone aged 18-24 can get a discounted entry into the park by bringing proof of registration, along with ID, between 22 May to 26 May.

Tickets will cost just £20 for those showing they are eligible to vote – a reduction of £30.

The scheme comes after data from Ipsos Mori shows that over half of all 18-24-year-olds failed to use their vote in the 2015 election.

Some 57% of younger people didn’t bother to vote at all, compared to just 22% of non-voters in the 65 and over bracket.

Dominic Jones, Divisional Director at Thorpe Park, said: “This is one of the most significant general elections of our generation and we want to encourage more young people to register their chance to vote.”

Younger voters have been traditionally less likely to vote than the older generation in elections – something that benefits the Tories over Labour, who tend to attract support from young people.

Jeremy Corbyn is keen to appeal to the youth market in a bid to bolster his vote share in an election which is widely thought will be won by the Tories.

The deadline to register to vote is Monday 22 May at 22.59.
