Thought Glasto Was Big? Wait Until You See These Aerial Pictures Over Burning Man Festival

These are the pictures that show the vast scale of the annual Burning Man Festival - that is set to be home to around 65,000 residents as they gather for a week-long party.

In fact, the festival in the middle of Nevada, Black Rock City, is roughly FIVE TIMES the size of Glastonbury, sitting at an astonishing 5.5 square miles.

That is also roughly the size of downtown San Francisco.

The incredible photos, taken from the air, show a vast semi-circle that of structures that includes a cinema, places of worship, clubs and even an AIRPORT with its own flight code.

People gathering at the site will live spend seven days there to celebrate an alternative way of living and the city is built and dismantled every year.

The city has its own camp names and roads named after the positions they occupy on a clock face.

And right in the centre of all this sits the Man sculpture after which the festival is named - that is set fire to on the last day.

Originally a full circle structure, the Burning Man site once lasted for just one day but the popularity saw the shape change since its start 29 years ago.

Rod Garrett designed the new semi-circle shape in 1997 and the festival has remained that shape ever since.

The festival begins on the last Monday of August and ends on the first Monday of September and 65,000 people are expected to show up.

Guests ‘barter’ or swap items for tickets as money is outlawed at the site.

The Burning Man website states that the theme for this year is ‘Carnival of Mirrors’.
